Rowana Slegers werkte van Januari 2022 tot mei 2022 en van mei 2023 tot augustus 2024 wekelijks met een groep vrouwen aan kunstproject Warda. Warda betekent bloem in het Arabisch. Zoals een bloem zich ontvouwt in de lente, zo ontvouwt kunstproject Warda ook.
Rowana raakte geïnspireerd door geborduurde klederdracht in de Sinaï in Egypte en heeft deze inspiratie ingezet voor het opzetten van het kunstproject waar samen met een groep vrouwen aan een kostuum wordt gewerkt. Het kunstproject is in een AZC in Arnhem gestart en voortgezet in het AZC in Velp.
Binnen het kunstproject is onderzocht hoe een groep vrouwen van verschillende afkomsten zonder een visueel voorbeeld een textiel werk kunnen maken. De natuur en eigen cultuur en gebruiken zijn de leidraad geworden voor het werk. De taalbarrière daagt uit op een creatieve manier te communiceren. Opnieuw blijkt dat een mens op vele andere manieren kan communiceren dan enkel met woorden. Door samen aan eenzelfde kostuum te werken creeren we nabijheid en intimiteit waarbij het maken als een taal ontstaat.

Deze groep hebben het Kunstproject financieel gesteund en vertrouwen gegeven. Het COA, voor het in contact brengen met de vrouwen en het aanbieden van een werkplaats. Zonder deze steun was het niet mogelijk om het project te realiseren.

Since January 2022 till May 2022 and since May 2023 to August 2024 on a weekly base Rowana Slegers has been working with a group of women on the art project Warda. Warda means flower in Arabic. Just as a flower unfolds in spring, so does the Warda art project.
Rowana got inspired by embroidered traditional clothing in Sinai in Egypt and has used this inspiration to set up the art project where a group of women work on a costume. The art project started in the AZC in Arnhem, after it continued in the AZC in Velp.
Within the art project, research took place on how a group of women of different origins can create a textile work without a visual example. Nature and own culture and habit have became the source of inspiration. The language barrier challenges to communicate in a creative and different way. Once again it appears that a person can communicate in many ways other than words. By working together on the same costume we create closeness and intimacy where the making functions as its own language.
